Our community
Tobique First Nation (Neqotkuk) is a Wolastoqiyik community located where the Tobique River meets the Wolastoq (Saint John River) in New Brunswick, Canada. Wolastoqiyik means ‘people of the beautiful river’, and our people have lived on this territory since time immemorial.
We are one of six Wolastoqiyik Nation communities in New Brunswick and the largest rural Wolastoqiyik community, with around 2,500 members.
Leadership
Tobique First Nation is governed by an elected Chief and Council, led by Chief Ross Perley. Council is committed to strong governance, sound financial management and transparent communication with our membership.
Economic development
Our community is safe and vibrant, and we promote healthy lifestyles, education, culture and tradition. We are working to secure opportunities for the next seven generations through responsible economic development, including:
01
Band-owned enterprises and a growing network of community businesses
02
Clean energy, including the Wacawson Wind Farm
03
The province's first Indigenous-owned cannabis dispensary
04
An established gaming sector regulated by the Tobique Gaming Commission
The Prediction Markets framework continues this tradition: building a well-regulated, internationally credible sector that supports the self-sufficiency of our Nation.
